When talking about traditional Chinese culture, a concept is often mentioned: "the union of heaven and man". This is a very important idea in Chinese culture, and it can even be said to be the core of Chinese culture. So what exactly is the unity of heaven and man?

Ju Shi, I think that the idea of "the union of heaven and man" can be analyzed into two parts: the number of vice days and the relationship between heaven and man.

First, the number of vice days

The so-called vice-days of man refers to: man is the most beautiful creature between heaven and earth, and is called the three talents together with sky and earth. .

Dong Zhongshu, a great Confucianist in the Western Han Dynasty, authored a book called "Fluture in Spring and Autumn". Dong Zhongshu believes that heaven is the great-grandfather of man, so the characteristics of man correspond to the characteristics of heaven everywhere:

Being a person, heaven is also, a person is a person in heaven, and a great-grandfather is also a person. The human form is formed by the number of days; the human flesh and blood are transformed by the will and the benevolence; the morals of the human are transformed by the natural and righteousness; the likes and dislikes of the human are transformed by the warmth of the heavens; Ordered, at four o'clock in heaven; life has answers to joy, anger, sorrow, spring and autumn, winter, and summer. Joy, spring answer, anger, autumn answer, joy, summer answer, sorrow, winter answer, heaven's vice cares about people.

(The ancients think) the sky is round, the head is round and the feet are square; the sky has the sun and the moon, the man has eyes; the sky has the stars, the man has hair; the year has 360 days, and the man has 360 bone joints. There are four seasons a year, people have limbs; there are five elements in the sky, people have five internal organs ...

Not only does the human body conform to the laws of heaven, but the rules of human behavior must also conform to the laws of heaven, otherwise it will be contrary to heaven. For example, in the autumn, there is a stagnation, many small bugs die in the autumn, the leaves wither and fall in the autumn, and the fruits and crops mature in the autumn. Therefore, the ancients believed that autumn belongs to the gold in the five elements, which corresponds to torture. Therefore, the execution of prisoners must also be in autumn. This is what is often said in TV dramas. In the spring, everything germinates, it belongs to the season of life.

Heaven and Man

Not only does the body and spirit of man conform to the laws of heaven, but what man does , especially what the emperor does, also causes the reaction of heaven. This is called the feeling of heaven and man, or the sense of heaven and man.

The ancients believed that the emperor was the most important person, the emperor, who inherited the fate of the heavens and educated the people. Therefore, every move of Tianzi will cause heaven's induction. For example, if Tianzi is doing well, heaven will drop all kinds of auspicious things, such as Jiahe, White Deer, Ganoderma, etc., to applaud the emperor; if Tianzi behaves wrongly and goes backwards, Heaven will drop various disasters, such as earthquakes, fires, floods Wait, condemn the emperor.

In the era of supremacy of imperial power, scholars and scholars hope to restrict the emperor in this way, so that his behavior will not be excessive. However, the emperor with great power did not care about this.

During the period of Emperor Hanwu , a fire broke out in the Liaodong Gaomiao and Changling Gaoyuan halls. Dong Zhongshu thought that this was a problem with the emperor's administration, so he wrote a play called "The Disaster of Disasters" at home. Unexpectedly, Zou Shu hadn't finished writing yet. A man named Zhufu stole the draft and went to show Emperor Han Wu, who almost executed him. Since then, Dong Zhongshu has never dared to talk about disaster.

First, the disaster in the Liaodong Gaomiao and Changling Gaoyuan palaces was explained by Zhong Shu's family. The draft was not published, and the master waited for Zhong Shu, who was private, jealous, and stole his books. Shangzhao regarded the Confucianists, and Lu Shushu, a disciple of Zhongshu, did not know his teacher's book, and thought it was a great fool. So Xia Zhongshu, when he died, he pardoned him. Zhong Shusui did not dare to repeat the disaster. (Han Shu Dong Zhongshu Biography)
