Fang Guonan was originally named Fang Yankang, who was born in Pingjiang County, Hunan Province. Born in 1915, died of illness in Changsha on December 10, 1997, at the age of 82.
He joined the Chinese Communist Youth League in 1929.
In 1930 he joined the Red Army of Chinese workers and peasants . Transferred from the regiment to the Chinese Communist Party in 1931. During the Agrarian Revolutionary War, he served as the Political Instructor of the Third Division and the Ninth Regiment of the Third Army Regiment, supplemented the division instructor, and the political commissar of the regiment. Participated in the Long March. During the Anti-Japanese War, he served as a political commissar of the Second Military Station Hospital of the Eighth Route Army , director of the inspection team of the General Political Department ’s Direct Industry Department, director of the Political Department of the General Supply Department, director of the 10th Military Division of the Central Military Region, director of the Political Department of the 9th Army Division, and Jincha Director of the Political Department of the Army Middle School of the Hebei Military Region. In 1953, the Central Military Commission decided to change the 25th Infantry School to the Sports School of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, responsible for cultivating sports instructors, army sports staff, and grass-roots sports backbones. In 1954 he became the school's first political commissar. In 1957, the school was withdrawn and promoted to Deputy Political Commissioner of the Hunan Military Region.
In 1955 was awarded the rank of major general. Won the two-level eight one medal, two-level independent freedom medal, two-level liberation medal. In July 1988, it was awarded the first-class Red Star Medal of Honor by the Central Military Commission.
He died of illness in Changsha on December 10, 1997, at the age of 82.
