Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías (July 28, 1954-March 5, 2013) is a Venezuelan politician who was the 52nd Venezuelan President and created " The "Fifth Republic Movement" party, was elected president in December of the same year. Successfully re-elected in 2007.
In 1992, he was jailed for launching a coup. Released from prison in 1994. He had malignant tumors in January 1998 and was re-elected as president in October 2012.
In 2011, Chavez was diagnosed with cancer. On March 5, 2013, Chavez died of cancer at the age of 58.
On July 28, 1954, Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias was born into a Catholic family in Savaneta, Barinas. There are six children in the family, and Chavez ranks second. Although both parents are teachers, like most Venezuelans, his family is in a tight spot. It wasn't until Chavez's father, Hugo Delos Reyes, was promoted to the district's director of education and then elected governor of the State of Barinas that their family situation gradually improved.
At an early age, Chavez worshipped South American independent leader Bolivar . He loves to play this hero and fantasizes that he will also cross the Andes and liberate the oppressed continent. In addition to his love of Bolivar, the younger Chavez was also very fond of baseball. He believes that the best way out of poverty is to be a great baseball player.
Chavez attended the local Julian Pino Elementary School, and later attended the Daniel Florencio Oleri Senior High School, where he obtained a diploma in science. Because of poor grades, Chavez failed to pass college after graduating from high school. However, with his excellent baseball talents, he entered the capital's Gaslas Military Academy with a scholarship to further his studies, and obtained a bachelor's degree in military science and engineering in 1975. It was also during that time that Chavez joined the army.
During his military service, Chavez witnessed corruption among senior officers. In 1982, he united a group of like-minded soldiers and secretly established an anti-corruption organization called the "Bolivar Revolutionary Movement" in favor of the "Latin American Alliance" advocated by Bolivar.
In 1991 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel commander of the airborne battalion.
In 1992, Chavez launched a "two-fourth" military coup aimed at overthrowing President Andres Perez. The ultimate goal was to capture the then President Perez. The coup ended in failure, and Chavez himself was arrested and jailed.
In 1994, Chavez was pardoned by then President Rafael Caldera.
In January 1998, Chavez founded the Fifth Republic Movement and served as its chairman. In the same year, Chavez began running for president. In May, Chavez's polls had risen to 30% and in August to 39%. On December 6, the same year, he was elected as the presidential candidate of the "Patriotic Center" of the Alliance and won the election. He was elected as the 53rd President of Venezuela. On February 2, 1999, he was sworn in as President.
On July 30, 2000, Chavez was re-elected as president with 60% of the vote in the presidential election reconvened under Venezuela's new constitution.
Late on the night of April 11, 2002, the right-wing opposition launched a military coup and detained Chavez on the island of La Orchella. After the news spread, more than 200,000 people flooded the streets and gathered around the presidential palace, demanding the immediate release of Chavez. At 1:30 a.m. on April 14, 12 commandos flew to Raukila Island in 3 helicopters and rescued Chavez.
On August 15, 2004, the reactionaries ousted their votes. As a result, 59% of the votes cast the "No" option, and Chavez won.
In December 2006, Chavez was re-elected for the third time. He was sworn in on January 10, 2007.
In 2007, Chavez proposed an amendment to the constitution, which extended the president's term to seven years and allowed him to win re-election. In May of the same year, Chavez registered to apply for membership of the Venezuela United Socialist Party. In December, Venezuela held a referendum that ultimately rejected the constitutional amendment proposed by Chavez.
In February 2008, Chavez was elected and chaired the Venezuelan United Socialist Party.
In 2009, Chavez again proposed a constitutional amendment. In a referendum held in February of the same year, Chavez received a 54.36% support vote and was approved. According to this constitutional amendment, public officials elected by the Venezuelan president, governor, mayor, and parliamentarians can be re-elected indefinitely.
In June 2011, Chavez was diagnosed with cancer and underwent pelvic tumor resection and multiple rounds of radiation and chemotherapy. In February 2012, the cancer recurred, and Chavez returned to Cuba for treatment.
In October 2012, Venezuela held a presidential election. Chavez eventually defeated young rival Enric Capriles with 54% of the vote, winning the fourth presidential election.
On March 5, 2013, Venezuelan time, Chavez died of cancer at the age of 58. On March 15, 2013, the burial ceremony of Chavez's body was held at the Caracas Revolution Museum.
